Frequently Asked Questions
When is Phulera Dooj in 2027?
Phulera Dooj 2027 falls on Wednesday, 10 March 2027. Dwitiya tithi runs from 03:41 PM, 9 Mar to 03:53 PM, 10 Mar IST, as calculated for Ujjain. Times shift by a few minutes for other cities.
What is Phulera Dooj?
The day Krishna and Radha play Holi with flower petals instead of colour — a flower-only prelude in the 40-day Braj Holi season. Falling on Phalguna Shukla Dwitiya between Vasant Panchami and Holi, it is also treated as an abuja muhurat — a day so auspicious no separate muhurat is needed.
Why is Phulera Dooj observed?
In Braj, Holi is not a single day but a 40-day cycle that opens on Vasant Panchami and ends on Rangwali Holi. Phulera Dooj is the day inside that cycle when temples shift from quiet worship to active Holi mood — priests dress Krishna in fresh Holi shringar, and the deity is shown 'preparing' for the colour days to come. The Holi played here is Phoolon wali Holi: petals only, no gulal. Banke Bihari and other Vrindavan temples shower devotees with marigold and rose. Traditionally the natural colour came from Tesu (Palash) flowers, the orange bloom Krishna himself is said to have used with the gopis. The day is also called an abuja muhurat — a dosha-free date when weddings can be held without consulting the panchang. Not all astrologers accept this; many panchangs leave it off their marriage lists.
Which prarthanas are recited on Phulera Dooj?
Hare Krishna Japa, Krishna Mantra and Govinda Damodara Stotram are recited on Phulera Dooj. You can listen to them with audio on this page.
