About Rama

Rama is the cloud-dark prince of Ayodhya who carries the Kodanda bow, the seventh avatar of Vishnu born to Dasharatha and wed to Sita of Mithila. His signature moment is not Ravana's fall but the shore before it: when Vibhishana crosses over from Lanka, Rama vows in the Yuddha Kanda that anyone who comes to him even once, saying 'I am yours,' receives fearlessness from every being. Ramanuja's school built the doctrine of sharanagati (single-act surrender) on that line. In the Adhyatma Ramayana he turns teacher, explaining 'Tat Tvam Asi' to Hanuman. Adi Shankara's Rama Pancharatna pictures him in yellow silk, lotus-petal eyes, always saluted alongside Lakshmana.
