How Masik Shivratri is kept

1. Fast through the day.
2. The puja window is Nishita Kaal, about 48 minutes around midnight, when Shiva is said to have appeared as the Linga.
3. The fullest form worships Shiva in each of the night's four prahars, with abhisheka of water, curd, ghee and honey, and offers bilva leaves, aak flowers and vibhuti.
4. Parana, the breaking of the fast, is after sunrise the next morning, ideally before Chaturdashi ends.
