What sets Kansa Vadh apart is what happens the morning after. On Dev Uthan Ekadashi, Mathura's Chaubeys walk the Teen Van Parikrama — a circuit on foot through Mathura, Vrindavan and Garun Govind. The lore: even Krishna, having killed his own maternal uncle, had to atone for the sin of killing a kinsman, and walked this very route himself. The community keeps the penance alive each year. The exclusivity is striking too — no other caste in Mathura observes the day, so Chaubeys living in Mumbai, Dubai and elsewhere in the Gulf time their visits home around it. Worship centres on Krishna and Radha, but the heart of the festival is this odd double note: celebrating a killing on day one, atoning for it on day two.
