Frequently Asked Questions
When is Yogini Ekadashi in 2027?
Yogini Ekadashi 2027 falls on Wednesday, 30 June 2027. Ekadashi tithi runs from 10:04 PM, 29 Jun to 08:31 PM, 30 Jun IST, as calculated for Ujjain. Times shift by a few minutes for other cities.
What is Yogini Ekadashi?
Yogini Ekadashi falls in Ashadha Krishna Paksha — the fast tucked between Nirjala and Devshayani Ekadashi, in June or July. Its vrat katha tells of Hemamali, a yaksha florist of Kubera, cursed to wander earth as a leper until this fast restored him.
Why is Yogini Ekadashi observed?
The story comes from Krishna's words to Yudhishthira. Hemamali fetched flowers each morning from Lake Manasarovar for Kubera's Shiva puja in Alakapuri. One day, lost in time with his wife Vishalakshi, he missed the noon offering. Kubera cursed him to become a leper on earth, parted from her. Sage Markandeya, meeting him in the Himalayas, prescribed Yogini Ekadashi — and the fast lifted the curse. The phalashruti claims its merit equals feeding 88,000 brahmins. The day has one ritual quirk that sets it apart from other Ekadashis: food on this vrat is strictly saltless, and barley, moong dal and wheat are dropped from the previous evening's meal too. Devotees break the fast only after giving food and clothes to brahmins and the needy at sunrise.
Which prarthanas are recited on Yogini Ekadashi?
Vishnu Shodasa Nama Stotram, Dwadashakshara Mantra and Vishnu Shanthakaram Mantra are recited on Yogini Ekadashi. You can listen to them with audio on this page.
