Marks the birth of the naked avadhuta of Varanasi (1607–1887), the Telugu-born yogi whom Sri Ramakrishna hailed as a living Paramatma. Falling on Pausha Shukla Ekadashi — the same Rohini-nakshatra day he was born — devotees gather at his Kashi math on the Ganges to honour him.

The name 'Trailanga' simply marks his origin — the Telugu-speaking Trailanga country of Andhra, from where he wandered north and settled in Varanasi around 1737. Stories of his siddhis are specific, not vague: sitting motionless for hours on the scorching stone of Manikarnika Ghat, drinking poison unharmed, and floating on the Ganges for long spells. In old age he kept the Ajagara-vritti — the 'python vow' — lying still while devotees poured abhisheka water over him from dawn till noon. Sri Ramakrishna met him at Kashi and is said to have fed him nearly 25 kg of pudding in one sitting. When he died on 26 December 1887, his body was not burned but given Jala-samadhi in the Ganges, as Dashanami sannyasis are. Paramahansa Yogananda later carried his story west in 'Autobiography of a Yogi'.
