The most striking ritual sits at Talakaveri in Kodagu. At the exact Sankramana moment, a spring is said to surge up in the small temple tank on Brahmagiri hill — the Theerthodbhava, treated as the Kaveri's annual rebirth. Pilgrims fill brass pots with this water and carry it home for the year. Downstream in Tamil Nadu, the same month is Aippasi, and the Tula Purana teaches that Ganga herself resides in the Kaveri through it. The month closes with Kadai Muzhukku — the 'Last Dip' — celebrated grandly at Mayiladuthurai, where the Panchamurtis (processional bronzes) from every temple in town are brought down to the Tula Ghat on the river for Theerthavari, a collective immersion ceremony. Unlike most Sankrantis, only the 15 ghatis on either side of the transit count as the punya kaal.
