The whole festival is staged as a family visit. The puja spot is treated as Gauri's maternal home (pehar); the pond or well where the images are immersed is her in-laws' house. Folk songs address Gawarja as an elder sister and Isar as the brother-in-law, so the worship feels like sending off a bride. Married women carry the dressed clay images on their heads in an afternoon procession to a garden or tank; on the final day the image of Gauri is turned to face the same way as Isar before immersion. The fast is unusual: per the Vratotsav Sangraha, a woman takes only milk once a day and keeps the vrat secret from her husband — even the prasad is not shared with him. Women also offer 'Gune', tiny ornaments shaped from turmeric, flour and gram flour, which are later given to the mother-in-law and sisters-in-law.
