Saraswati
About Saraswati
Saraswati is the only major Hindu goddess shown entirely in white — white sari, white lotus seat, white sandal paste — holding a veena (Indian lute), a palm-leaf book, and a crystal rosary, with a swan as her mount. She is Brahma's consort and, in the Rigveda, began as a river goddess before becoming the deity of speech and learning. Her oldest seat is the Sharada Peeth in Kashmir, which gives her the name Sharada. Devotees ask her for one specific thing: to remove jadya, the dullness of mind. Students place their books at her feet on Vasant Panchami each spring.
