Before sleeping

Before sleeping
A four-line bedtime shloka that names five champions of strength: Rama, Skanda (Kartikeya), Hanuman, Vainateya (Garuda, Vishnu's eagle mount), and Vrikodara (Bhima, the wolf-bellied Pandava). The verse promises that whoever recalls these five at night finds the unattainable within reach. A closely related variant, recited before sleep, specifically destroys bad dreams and night-fears. Each name is chosen for a reason: Rama for dharma, Skanda for command in battle, Hanuman for fearless devotion, Garuda for speed and the power to neutralize poison, Bhima for sheer physical might.
