How is Panchanga calculated?

Panchanga is calculated from the precise longitudes of the Sun and Moon, adjusted for the observer's latitude, longitude and timezone. Because Tithi, Nakshatra and Yoga all depend on the angular relationship between the Sun and Moon at a specific location, the same date can show slightly different values in different cities — which is why accurate Panchanga requires your location.

Why is Rahu Kaal important?

Rahu Kaal is a roughly 90-minute window each day considered inauspicious for starting new or important activities, such as travel, business deals or ceremonies. It is traditionally avoided because, in Vedic astrology, this period is influenced by Rahu, a shadow planet associated with confusion and unexpected obstacles. The exact time shifts daily based on sunrise and sunset.

How do I check Shubh Muhurat for an activity?

A Shubh Muhurat is a time window where the Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga and planetary positions support a specific activity — like marriage, Griha Pravesh, or starting a business. On Dharmayana, you can pick a date and your location, and the page shows the day's Shubh Muhurats (Abhijit, Amrit Kaal, etc.) along with Ashubh timings to avoid.

What is the difference between Tithi and Nakshatra?

Tithi is the lunar day — one of 30 divisions of the lunar month based on the angle between the Sun and the Moon. Nakshatra is a star-based division of the sky into 27 segments, and refers to which segment the Moon is in at a given moment. Tithi governs rituals tied to the lunar cycle (like Ekadashi or Purnima); Nakshatra influences personal compatibility and specific muhurats.

Why does Panchanga change based on my location?

Sunrise, sunset and moonrise timings depend on your latitude and longitude, and Tithi/Nakshatra transitions are computed against local time. A Panchanga cast for Delhi will not exactly match one cast for Chennai on the same date. Dharmayana auto-detects your location, but you can change it from the location picker above.
