About Chitra Purnima
On this Chithirai full moon, Chitragupta — Yama's scribe — is said to open the ledger that records each soul's deeds, both seen (chitra) and hidden (gupta). Devotees bathe in rivers and tanks to lighten that account, the same way Indra is said to have been freed of his sins on this day near Madurai.
