About Venkateshwara
Venkateshwara stands four-armed and erect on Venkatadri, one of Tirumala's seven hills — his black stone idol said to be self-manifested, his chest still marked with saffron from Lakshmi's embrace. Devotees know him as Kaliyuga Pratyaksha Daivam, the god you can actually see in this age. A loan he took from Kubera to marry Padmavati is why pilgrims drop gold and cash into the temple hundi — repaying his wedding debt. Sage Markandeya's five-verse Vajra Kavacha shields the reciter limb by limb. Each dawn the Suprabhatam, composed by Annangaracharya in the 15th century, wakes Lakshmi first, then the Lord. His nine-day Brahmotsavam draws millions.
