About Nag Devata
The Nagas are a clan of serpent gods, usually shown half-human above the waist with a coiled snake body and a crown of many hoods, each bearing a glowing gem. Their stories anchor major myths: Shesha cradles a sleeping Vishnu on the cosmic ocean, Vasuki served as the churning rope around Mount Mandara during the Samudra Manthana, and Krishna danced on Kaliya's hoods to purify the Yamuna. They rule Patala, the underworld, from the city Bhogavati. On Nag Panchami, devotees pour milk over snake stones and visit shrines like Kerala's Mannarasala to seek relief from sarpa dosha.
