Godevata

About Godevata

Godevata is the sacred cow worshipped as Kamadhenu, the wish-granting cow who rose from the churning of the cosmic ocean. Her single stotram maps her body to the whole universe: Brahma rides her back, Vishnu her neck, Rudra her face. The four Vedas fill her udders. The Ganga flows in her urine, the sun and moon are her eyes, and the eight great mountains rest on her hoof-tips. Her milk is called Amrita, the nectar of immortality. Devotees chant her Gayatri at dawn before feeding cows, and recite her stotram during Govardhan Puja, the day after Diwali.
