About Budha

Budha is Mercury among the Navagrahas, and the Navagraha Stotram pictures him with a striking dark complexion — like the unopened bud of the priyangu flower — gentle in form and sattvic in nature. He carries a bow, mace and shield, which earns him the name Baneshaya, lord of arrows. Myth names him Chandraputra, son of the Moon by Tara, and father of Pururavas — making him the root of the Lunar dynasty. His chief shrine is Thiruvenkadu in Tamil Nadu. Devotees chant his beej mantra — Bram Breem Broum Sah Budhaya Namah — on Wednesdays, often 17,000 times over 40 days, for clear speech and sharp study.
