Vaara refers to the seven days of the week and is similar to the seven-day week used in the Gregorian calendar. Each Vaara is ruled by a specific planet.
1. Sunday (Ravivaara): Ruled by the Sun (Surya).
2. Monday (Somavaara): Ruled by the Moon (Chandra).
3. Tuesday (Maṅgalavaara): Ruled by Mars (Mangala).
4. Wednesday (Budhavaara): Ruled by Mercury (Budha).
5. Thursday (Guruvaara): Ruled by Jupiter (Guru or Brihaspati).
6. Friday (Shukravaara): Ruled by Venus (Shukra).
7. Saturday (Shanivaara): Ruled by Saturn (Shani).
The concept of Vaara is related to the solar day. It is linked only to the sun ☀️ and not linked to the moon 🌕. Hence it is not directly tied to Tithi. Each Vaara corresponds to an approximate 24-hour period, just like the days in the Gregorian calendar.
A Vaara in the Hindu system starts at sunrise 🌅 and ends at the next sunrise 🌅, not at midnight 🕛 as in the Gregorian calendar. The exact time of Vaara start and end would be determined based on the geographical location📍.
