ॐ उग्रं वीरं महाविष्णुं ज्वलन्तं सर्वतोमुखम् ।

नृसिंहं भीषणं भद्रं मृत्युमृत्युं नमाम्यहम् ॥

Om Ugram Veeram Mahavishnum Jwalantam Sarvatomukham ।

Narasimham Bheeshanam Bhadram Mrityur Mrityum Namamyaham ॥

This Narasimha moola mantra, in a nutshell, means, he who recites the name of Narasimha in any situation in his life, can rest assured that the Lord will be there by his or her side, in a lightning flash, and whatever the situation, will be engulfed in His protection and care.

Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, or the Half-Man Half-Lion is the fourth one among the ten avatars of the Hindu mythological scriptures. While we associate Him with quick anger, impatience and a blazing temper by and large, what we miss is that Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, (He with His power along with the presence of his consort, Goddess Lakshmi) will run to the immediate aid of his devotees in a flash.

Just like when His ultimate devotee, child Prahlad took refuge at His feet when the torturous attacks of his own father, the evil demon Hiranyakashyapu became unbearable, and Lord Narasimha appeared at lightning speed, likewise, the great gurus and seers tell us that this is the only avatar of Lord Mahavishnu who did not take months, or years to manifest Himself near his disciple.

In our Hindu spirituality there are many miracles that can be connected to various deities, and many happening in the present Kali yuga itself. The most important aspect for one to see miracles or a complete turnaround, is the presence of the instance of the belief of the person. The Ichcha Shakti (the power of belief consciously and resolutely) deep within us comes to the fore, and in perfect unifying resonance with the Almighty, makes things get fructified for all.

When we trust Lord Narasimha with our heart and mind, the energy of our heart gets connected with that of the Lord’s, and there can be a dramatic turn of events, where people are said to have gotten over the worst kind of illness, or a bad phase in life, where it’s misfortunes galore. Our Gurus, time and again, reiterate the fact that the chanting of some powerful shlokas and mantras can be beneficial in a lot of ways. The two shlokas at the beginning of the article are enough to please Lord Narasimha. All you need is perseverance, and the conscious effort to be consistent in chanting it.

The month of Kartika is auspicious for Lord Narsimha. In our scriptures, He is said to ‘open his eyes’ in this month, to shower His devotees with Blessings. The holy hill of Sholingur, where Lord Narsimha is known by the name- Yoga Narasimha, sits with His consort, Goddess Amrithavalli. Many devotees flock to the Sholingur hillock, to get His Grace and darshan in the Kartika month which is from 15th November to 15th December, because he is the most powerful in this place during Kartika.

Countless people have had innumerable miracles when they have called out to Him in times of need, or in times of emergencies- there are personal experiences that can corroborate this phenomena. He is the God who gives instantaneous help, assistance, protection, grace just when we think of Him.

Let us focus and let our thoughts converge on the loving facet of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha, by chanting His Gayatri:

Narasimha Gayatri Mantra | नृसिंह गायत्री मंत्र

ॐ उग्रनृसिंहाय विद्महे वज्रनखाय धीमहि तन्नोनृसिंह प्रचोदयात् ।

Let me contemplate on the Man-lion form of the Lord who has nails so strong like that of Vajra (thunderbolt). Let the Lion god be pleased to illuminate me with the right path.
